The music of the Czech band Khatano could be labeled a mix of heavy-grooved death metal and hardcore. But don’t leap to the conclusion that what they’re doing is “deathcore”, because it definitely is not that, as you’ll quickly discover from the song called “Hate” that we’re premiering today from Khatano‘s new album In Shackles.
The song is well-named because it does sound hateful — ferociously so. Panchlera Panchezzo‘s vocals are the most violently raging aspect of the track. They’re not death metal gutturals but instead a blast furnace of howling grit and raw fury. The other aspects of the song don’t pull any punches either — and they do punch very damned hard.
Khatano have stripped away any fancy embellishments and pretensions in favor of music that’s just downright mean — and muscle-moving. The chords ferociously blare and reverberate as the drummer administers a vigorous initial beating, and then the band start slugging and jabbing while the drums launch a veering gallop.
The riffing slashes and burns, and when it viciously pulsates and hungrily gnashes in the song’s final phase it seems guaranteed to whip up a mosh pit when performed live.
In Shackles was recorded in Hardcafe Studio Sound, with mastering by Hollander Sound. It features artwork by Hellcatfairy Art, and it contains some re-recorded songs from the previous full-length V okovech with a new sound and concept.
In Shackles will be co-released digitally and on a jewel-box CD edition by GrimmDistribution (Ukraine) and More Hate Productions (Russia) on October 19th. For more info, check the links below — and then also listen to the new album’s lead single “Public Autopsy“, which is also mean as hell, and bleak as well as bone-smashing, viciously roiling, and feverishly throbbing.

From Ostrava – the Moravian-Silesian Region of Czechia, Khatano has been establishing their mesh of death metal, hardcore, and groove metal since 2012. Now preparing their third-full length record, the group’s lineup consists of vocalist Petr ‘Pancho’ Danč (Disfigured), guitarist Perry, bassist Mirek ‘Rybíz’ Cajka (Endless), and drummer René Šarkán (Purity).
It’s an honor to exclusively premiere “Revenge” off the upcoming In Shackles album. The track is as cut-throat as both Decapitated and Kublai Khan. Give the song a listen, and pre-order Khatano‘s second full-length record – In Shackles, releasing via Satanath Records, GrimmDistribution, and More Hate Productions.
