Before hearing a single note I was magnetized by the brilliant title of Gexerott’s new album, Hallucinetic Violet Ignition, and the equally attention-seizing and entirely complementary cover art. Together they kindle intrigue while simultaneously creating an otherworldly chill, the first hints of danger swathed in violet allure. It turns out that the danger blooms in the music, in blood-freezing and mind-altering ways.

 

This new album is Gexerott’s third, and in it they continue to follow an occult spiritual path, translating ceremonies and epiphanies with roots in chaos-gnosis. The music is fundamentally black metal, but takes a visionary form that is genuinely unearthly, and deeply sinister in ways that may leave you feeling shaken, and maybe even poisoned. That is certainly true of the song we’re premiering today in advance of the album’s April 18 co-release by Satanath Records and Exhumed Records.

 

The words of “Inseminated” tell a tale of a fractured mind, a terrifying narrative of a protagonist who has become a host for the black seeds of horrifying powers… seeds that have grown into things that are beginning to painfully hatch within him.

 

The music is every bit as hallucinatory and disturbing as you might imagine from that narrative. It morphs and mutates in unexpected but persistently unnerving ways, incorporating ringing guitars and gothic voices, seething riffs and voracious snarls, jolting chords and neck-slugging drums, maniacally darting fretwork and blistering percussion, unhinged cries and blood-curdling screams, droning undertows and exotically glinting arpeggios, slowly slithering melodies that ooze sickness, and bouts of boiling derangement.

 

It’s not a pleasant experience, but it is a transfixing and even seductive one, and it’s hard not to admire both the devotion and the ingenious craftsmanship that brought it about. Steel your nerves and press play.

Gexerott  are  a  band  from  Columbia  that  plays  an  occult  form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2021  album  "Hallecinetic  Violet  Ignition"  which  will  be  released  on  April  18th  as  a  joint  effort  between  Satanath  and  Exhumed  Records.

 

 

 

  A  very  dark  sounding  intro  starts  off  the  album  along  with  some  ritualistic  soundscapes  and  police  sirens  before  going  into  a  heavier  musical  direction.  All  of  the  musical  instruments  on  the  recording  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  while  dark  sounding  melodies  are  also  added  into  some  of  the  guitar  riffing.

 

 

 

  Vocals  are  mostly  grim  yet  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  while  clear  singing  can  also  be  heard  at  times.  When  the  music  speeds  up  a  decent  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  can  be  heard  which  also  gives  the  songs  more  of  a  raw  feeling  along  with  the  solos  and  leads  being  done  in  a  very  dark  yet  melodic  style.

 

 

 

  Clean  playing  can  also  be  heard  on  some  of  the  tracks  along  with  a  couple  of  songs  also  being  brief  interludes.  A  couple  of  the  songs  are  also  long  and  epic  in  length  as  well  as  some  acoustic  guitars  also  being  utilized  briefly,  there  is  also  a  brief  use  of  death  metal  growls  on  a  few  songs  which  are  also  done  in  a  very  demonic  style  and  melodic  chants  and  vocals  can  also  be  heard  briefly  and  as  the  album  progresses  a  small  amount  of  ritualistic  spoken  word  parts  and  synths  can  also  be  heard.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  Chaos  Gnosticism,  Occultism,  Qabala  and  Darkness  themes.

 

 

 

  In  my  opinion  Gexerott  are  a  very  great  sounding  occult  black  metal  band  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  this  recording.

Colombian band Gexerott have their latest album "Hallucinetic Violet Ignition" out, and this is quite the dynamic production for fans of extreme metal. With rough, raw and loud passages alternating with both elegant mid-paced and doom metal oriented parts for starters, but also with a gentler touch as a recurring feature and an expression closer aligned with dark melancholic rock as a part of the totality. Another recurring feature are short, atmospheric laden interludes. The vocals alternate between two different kinds of distorted vocals and clean, elegant dark tinged vocals of the kind that makes me think about post punk and goth rock bands. Extreme metal with something of a dark progressive swagger, and a production worth an inspection for those who find that description to be tasteful.

Hailing from the jungles of Colombia, Gexerott presents us their third ritualistic offering to us in the form of Hallucinetic Violet Ignition, or otherwise known as Havigni, is a psychedelic and oppressive journey through a unique take on black metal take is both unique, yet traditional. Contained within are deeply esoteric and twisted vocals that range from clean to harsh and inhuman. Tight and skillful instrumentation and memorable riffs that will be stuck with you for days.

Starting out lets talk about the variety of sound you'll hear through out this album. This isn't no one speed black metal all the way through with the same blast beats. Each song is progressive in its own right, creating climaxes and interesting journeys all contained in one track. From the typical tremolo picked riffs to hellish and chaotic solos, and even acoustic pieces that add to the deep atmosphere contained within the album. Each instrument shines as the production style is contained at that sweet spot of raw yet clean and not overly abrasive. The vocals are to me the most impressive part of the album, with the album mainly keeping it raw and bestial but not afraid to dip into cleaner, choir like parts of the vocals layered onto one another. There's also a very impressive screech that sounds extremely inhuman. It reminds me of the screech you'd hear in Pink Floyd's Careful With That Axe Eugene. Its just truly ear piercing and is wonderful for an album like this.

 

The imagery on the album is also very unique. As I've said before, there's an emphasis on the gnostic and ritualistic aspects of the album. Simply by listening you can tell they poured a lot of them selves into it. Coming off of their previous works, this tops them all. It sounds the most self assured and confident. These guys are ready to draw you into their dark and twisted world with their chaotic yet purposeful music.

 

My favorite track is the second, and self titled track, on the album. I think it perfectly sums up the album as a whole. Showing off everything the band has to offer into one concise five and a half minute track. But that doesn't mean you should write off the rest of the album as each track is just as memorable as the other.

 

I highly recommend this album to just about anyone really, even if they're not that much into metal. In my opinion its very accessible thanks to its style of production and really unique style that has the album stand out on its own compared to its peers, while still being able to keep those roots of black metal in there. Simply fantastic.

I don’t know about you, but it’s when black metal steps out of its typical boundaries to find new territory to call its own whether it’s territory we’ve been to before with a different band or a new name that manages to breathe fresh life where before there was stillness. Gexerott has been a name in the scene for some time, but it is undeniably with this brand new effort that this Colombian act has made a work that is more than worthy of investigation by all accounts, and I cannot express just how well it is crafted from top to bottom.

 

While this record may not be as hallucinogenic as the title might imply, it would be very wrong of me to even dare consider what’s done here to be straight black metal but I’d be doubly damned if I didn’t say that Gexerott somehow kept that original spirit gloriously in this very modern creation that is downright gripping right from the very beginning. “Hallucinetic Violet Ignition” is both a record that is incredibly grounded while still surprisingly ethereal in its performance and concepts which blend together impressively well to make for an experience that’s equally well-rounded and talented in every territory that Gexerott concerns themselves with the first spin being downright eye-opening and each one after that becoming rewarding to a wondrous extent! It’s in that first listen that Gexerott holds a firm grasp on your attention for the entirety of the nine tracks that adorn the album but it’s then in the second spin that the true intricacies come out of the shadows to make “Hallucinetic Violet Ignition” a significantly more detailed, layered, and utterly exquisite work that truly pulls the listener deeper into its aural wonder with very few other acts throughout all of black metal achieving what’s done here, and how can that make Gexerott anything other than a real wonder? It’s far from anything that could be considered earth-shattering by many standards, but there is no way to deny that what Gexerott has created here isn’t delicious in so many different ways with each song having something to call its own with the true whole of the record being the very definition of engrossing.

 

This is absolutely one of those listens that I was not nearly prepared for with how excellent it is from top to bottom, and I would be dead wrong to insinuate anything other than the reality of me being blown right out of the water with everything that Gexerott executes wondrously with this effort which is virtually everything about the work. “Hallucinetic Violet Ignition” is a trip that many modern black metal fans should lap up like homemade ice cream without exception as it’s so much that we could ever ask for from tremendous riffage, fantastic craftsmanship, and straight-up electrifying the moment that the record gets going.

Gexerott es una banda de Black Metal de la ciudad de Medellín, Colombia. Formada en el 2004, ejecutaba un Black Metal crudo en un estilo tradicional con sonidos ambientales los cuáles fueron capturados en su primer larga duración lanzado por Blood Ritual Records (USA) en el 2007 y titulado "Grim Arcana Winds".

 

Después de algunos cambios de alineación, Gexerott ingresó nuevamente al estudio en el 2012 para grabar su segundo álbum "Into Descensus Impious Ad Gloriam", esta vez lanzado por Tribulación Productions (Col) y oficialmente distribuido por sellos como Exitium Prod (UK) y Lamech Records (Sue).

 

Para este álbum, Gexerott tomó otra dirección hacia un sonido más ambiental y ritualista (en colaboración con E. Kerval - Acherontas, Emme Ya, Hetroertzen, Enthroned, etc.) en un notorio contraste con pasajes violentos que rememoran la magnificencia del Black Metal cuando es hecho con convicción, respecto, honestidad y originalidad.

 

En el 2018, Gexerott va a estudios Umbral (Caldas, Antioquia) para grabar su último álbum titulado "Hallucinetic Violet Ignition" o “Havigni”, un álbum que nació de la misma semilla evolutiva que dio vida a los álbumes previos y que entrega una nueva perspectiva acerca del sonido y la espiritualidad desarrollados por los miembros de la banda. Este álbum promete una experiencia donde el oyente será absorbido dentro de su sonido ceremonial y melódico, y a su vez crudo y violento, entrelazado cuidadosamente a una filosofía caosgnóstica.

 Gexerott ha hecho parte de varios eventos locales como el tour "De Mysteriis Dom. Sathanas" de la agrupación Mayhem y de eventos locales privados como el "Exánima Ritual Fest" (junto a prestigiosas bandas colombianas como G.O.C, Ignis Haereticum y Theurgia) entre otras.

 

Un trabajo atrapante, violento y pagano por momentos, por otros melodía, furia y caos sónico es lo que Gexerott nos entrega en este gran trabajo; toda la capacidad creativa de la agrupación, su tecnicidad y calidad se resume en estos 9 temas, cada uno con una identidad.

Los fríos vientos de pronto mos atrapan en una atmósfera sin retorno con "Ain", una especie de intro totalmente oscuro y pagano, que da paso a una poderosa "Hallucinetic Violet Ignition", apetecible, voces de ultratumba en los backing vocals, una marcha de guerra acompaña a la istrumentación que no da tregua con la guitarra que poría degollarte. Un temazo, destiempos y coros que la hacen única.

 

Cual inmersión en un pasaje sombrío, el cortísimo instrumental "Ain Soph" solo tiende su mano gélida para adentrarte a " EgoKinesis", muy "doomy" por momentos por esa pesadez guitarrera y su interacción con la batería, vampírica, dominante de principio a fin.

 

Con "Ketagnosis" retornamos a aquel Black Metal old school, a aquellos primeros tiempos de furia descontrolada, de regreso a la gruta adornada con candelabros...una gran variante luego de auqellos primeros minutos: machacante, incesante trabajo de la batería y un bajo bien marcado.

 

El turno para "Obnubilado", voces desde las entrañas mismas de lo oscuro anuncian que "Threshold Of Crystal Maze" irrumpe con fuerza, las voces escupen fuego, solos impecables, dobles bombos a tope.

 

 "Ain Soph Aur" es otro intro que da la bienvenida a la ceremonia con "Inseminated", toda un himno que refleja el espíritu de la banda, cierre de lo mejor, que te dejará extasiado al máximo.

 

Un trabajo de nivel superlativo, tremenda agrupación colombiana que deja en alto la bandera negra del metal sudamericano, un trabajo poderoso y pesado, contundente instrumentalmente y totalmente oscuro y pagano en las vocales.

 

Son 9 temas que tienen los condimentos necesarios para satisfacer los sentidos más exigentes, tremenda atmósfera desde los primeros segundos hasta el cierre dela placa que a mi gusto muy personal, los impulsa definitivamente al trono negro de los elgidos y con la consigna que también este disco va directo a ser dentro de unos años a ser pieza de culto del metal sudamericano y mundial.

Terceiro álbum dos colombianos que surge após oito anos de silêncio. A banda tem uma forma muito peculiar de black metal e diria que aqui atingem o pico máximo em termos de finesse. O black metal surge associado a campos mais extensos. É comum encontrar a descrição de black/doom metal, o que faz sentido mas talvez leve um pouco ao engano. Mais melódicos e mais apostados em criar atmosferas marcantes, eu diria que essa é a fórmula que leva a que tenhamos um álbum dinâmico e poderoso. Solos, riffs, dissonâncias e um espírito de progressão que em conjunto com os elementos black metal faz com que este seja um álbum surpreendente e viciante. Vicia inicialmente e depois vai surpreendendo a cada nova audição. O melhor é que se sente que não fica apenas por aqui e que a evolução vai continuar.

They say that variety is the spice of life. By that metric, Hallucinetic Violet Ignition is rich and flavorful, but you should keep some milk nearby, in case you can’t handle the heat. Black and doom metal are the primary ingredients of this spicy goulash, but there are well measured portions of several other influences as well. A near-chant style of vocals in parts helps to reveal the hints of post-metal winding through the mix. In other moments, the vocals once again hint at the rich, savoury flavors of death metal. The lead guitar work sometimes ascends into the cleaner palate of traditional heavy metal. And really, all of that just scratches the surface.

 

 

 

Hailing from Colombia, the band is a quintet which makes full use of their varied resources to create a very complete sound. The rhythm section is held down solidly and intricately by Umbræ on drums and Fr. תְּהוֹם on bass. Mald’Aurore joins in on rhythm guitar, while Fr. Morkvis handles the other axe. Up front, KXI takes care of vocal duties. The band has been around in one form or another since 2004 (2003 under the name Somber Solium, if you prefer). It’s unclear from the information I have how long each of the above members has been a part of Gexerott (except KXI, who has held various roles since the start), but the album sounds like a band that knows each other well, and works at the top of their abilities to compose excellence.

 

 

 

Hallucinetic Violet Ignition is a strange name for an album, but in a sense, it fits very well here. The music does indeed draw the listener into a hallucinogenic journey. I’m not sure what the name actually means, but it feels like I almost have it. It’s on the tip of my tongue, if you will. The album feels very much the same way. I’m not sure what it means, but I’m certainly led down dark pathways by these sounds the band have melted together. Gexerott have my attention with this album. Give it a listen. I’m sure they’ll have yours also.

This is the first full length from Colombian black metallers Gexerott in almost eight years, and ‘Hallucinetic Violet Ignition’ is out now via Satanath Records, those purveyors of quality underground heaviness. This is a record that challenged my perceptions of what South American black metal can be in 2021, and whether the more traditional style was all I could find if I looked harder!

 

Opener ‘Ain’ is a sinister piece of atmosphere building, a siren wailing as the density builds and a cold riff snakes its way into the foreground. This evolves into the title track, a sidewinding composition of eerie black metal wrapping itself around some progressive songwriting skills. It reminds me of the odd detours that Mayhem took on ‘Ordo Ad Chao’, a feeling of unease enhanced by the little interludes but personified by the grandiose, fear inducing ‘EgoKinesis’. Glorious guitar work hangs above a gloomy abyss that feels more like old My Dying Bride than anything black metal. The vocals are dynamic, switching between impassive croon to intense snarl with ease, and the majestic ‘Threshold of Crystal Maze’ might be the greatest example of the chameleonic shifts that Gexerott make on this record.

 

Gexerott were a band I was totally unfamiliar with before I listened to this, but their unique approach to the genre has me very intrigued. They have embraced this almost gothic doom atmosphere into their black metal, creating a work of art that is thrilling, spine tingling and instantly absorbing. You don’t forget albums like ‘Hallucinetic Violet Ignition’ once you hear them.

Cuando llegó este álbum de los blackers colombianos Gexerott, podría decirse que era fácil hacerse una idea de cómo sería su contenido: incluso si su portada se alejaba de la monocromía típica del género, el hecho de que fuera un grupo de black metal de Sudamérica ya me anticipaba un sonido crudo, oscuro e influenciado por la escena noruega, como se suele esperar de este continente. Pero las cosas terminaron siendo un tanto diferentes a lo que esperaba.

 

Hallucinetic Violet Ignition, tercer álbum de estos medellinenses y con edición a cargo del sello ruso Satanath Records en colaboración con los ecuatorianos de Exhumed Records, llega a ocho años de su antecesor Into Descensus Impious ad Gloriam, que a su vez había salido seis años después del debut Grim Arcane Winds, de 2007. Gexerott no son el primer grupo  al que le guste tomarse su tiempo entre lanzamientos, pero su caso es interesante en el hecho de que se puede encontrar una evolución muy importante entre cada uno de ellos, con GAW siendo un trabajo bastante derivativo del sonido noruego, y con IDIAG ya evidenciando la búsqueda de un sonido propio, más introspectivo y experimental.

 

Esta tendencia continúa en HVI: la apertura “Ain” arranca con sonidos ambiente que le van dando paso a una línea de guitarra oscura, seguida del ritmo ultra lento de la batería y un bajo bien presente y al frente. No es algo tan fuera de lo común al ser una simple introducción, pero las cosas se hacen más claras con el siguiente track, el tema título: tendrá el doble bombo, las voces podridas y las baterías que agarran velocidad, pero de la mano de eso hay también voces limpias, chillidos casi inhumanos, guitarras acústicas y riffs más melódicos.

 

Las voces limpias toman protagonismo en “EgoKinesis”, que además es una canción lenta pero no por eso falta de fuerza. Lejos de la atmósfera de blasfemia helada del común del black metal, en este caso es más lúgubre, casi melancólica por momentos. Aunque Gexerott sigan siendo, técnicamente, un grupo que tiene al black metal como la base de su sonido, no hay que hacer una escucha muy profunda para darse cuenta de que en la actualidad los colombianos son una entidad bastante diferente a los que estaban ataviados de riguroso corpsepaint blanco y negro en la portada de su álbum debut.

 

Esto no quiere decir que no haya algo de black metal más directo, porque “Ketagnosis” demuestra que Gexerott siguen llevando el estilo en la sangre, y también la final “Inseminated”, con esos chillidos extremos apareciendo de vez en cuando entre esas baterías abrumadoras y riffs pesados. Pero ahora son más la excepción que la regla, y en el medio entre esas canciones también está “Threshold of Crystal Maze”, que combina esa atmósfera oscura con las guitarras limpias y toda una variedad de voces. A falta de un mejor término, se podría definir esta nueva atmósfera de las canciones de Gexerott como “gótica”, combinando esos elementos extremos con una estética un tanto melancólica en su presentación.

 

Aparte del estilo de las canciones, es para destacar la estructura del álbum en si: son nueve tracks que acumulan 37 minutos, pero sólo cinco de esos son canciones tradicionales, mientras que los otros cuatro son la introducción y tres interludios, que sirven como pequeñas viñetas musicales. Como opinión personal, esta organización sirve en darle una gran variedad a los tracks en el menor tiempo posible, con cada canción mostrando una identidad propia.

 

El tercer álbum de Gexerott es una sorpresa agradable en el contexto del metal extremo sudamericano, creando un trabajo sumamente entretenido en su mezcla de influencias y que complementa una discografía variada y cambiante pero con un sello propio. Desde ya, un trabajo recomendable para explorar en busca de nuevas propuestas.
